Dimocarpus longan, commonly known as the longan, is a small tree that produces edible fruit. Fruits vary in size, but are usually about the size of a very large grape. The dragon's eye longan, is so named because it resembles an eyeball when its fruit is shelled (the black seed shows through the translucent flesh like a pupil/iris)
Longan trees respond favorably to lots of irrigation, and can stand brief periods of flooding. The plant is mildly hardy, and can survive brief temperature drops to 25-30F. Makes a great patio container plant.
