Chenopodium giganteum is a very large annual leafy foliage plant that grows over 6 feet tall. It is also known as Tree Spinach (not to be confused with Chaya). The leaves are triangular with a splash of magenta at the stem tips this is a hot new green for the garden. As the name suggests this is a giant spinach that will tower up to 6 ft if you let it. Stays smaller in containers. Very ornamental.
This plant, a relative of quinoa, has edible seeds which can be cooked or ground into flour. Leaves are used for salads, omelettes, frittatas, quiches, curries and soups. The young shoots are tasty, milder and, many say, better than spinach. Reseeding annual. Hard to find.

Other Names: Purple goosefoot, Magenta spreen, Chenopodium amaranticolor, Chenopodium elegantissimum, Chenopodium centrorubrum, Chenopodium leucospermum, unique vegetable, unusual vegetable, heat loving vegetable, ornamental vegetable
